Bonding: September 9, 2008

September 9, 2008

This morning, on the bus, Sea Swept, the first book in the Chesapeake Bay series, got its hooks into me. Coming home, I think I figured out why this is still my favorite series: I identify with Seth, the youngest Quinn male, who in Sea Swept is just a kid. He lives one of my childhood fantasies when he’s rescued from his hard life with his feckless, malevolent mother by a new family that loves him and takes care of him. My childhood wasn’t nearly as bad as his, but it had its moments, and I wanted someone to take me away and take care of me. Reading the first three books of the Chesapeake Bay series, I get to live that dream.

And the cool thing is, because it’s books, I get to live it more than once.
