Not In The Mood In Time: September 14, 2008

September 14, 2008

The really cool thing about the library is that you can take risks, borrow things that you’re not sure of, try new things with minimal risk. For me, the only cost for using the library — aside from the occasional late fee — is the energy expended getting the books from the library to home and back again.

The downside to borrowing books is that sometimes I’m not in the mood for a book before I have to return it. On August 31, I posted a list of books I borrowed from the library. Tonight, I thought I would break that list down: books I read, books I still have but haven’t read yet, and books I had to return without reading them.

Books I Read:

  • The Gilded Web by Mary Balogh
  • Black Ships : A Novel by Jo Graham
  • The Bone Key by Sarah Monette
  • Among The Bohemians : Experiments In Living, 1900-1939 by Virginia Nicholson

Books I Have But Haven’t Read Yet

  • The Devil’s Web by Mary Balogh
  • The Air We Breathe : A Novel by Andrea Barrett
  • The Brief History Of The Dead by Kevin Brockmeier
  • Mozart’s Ghost by Julia Cameron
  • The Spiritualist : A Novel by Megan Chance
  • The Edge : A Superintendent Mike Yeadings Mystery by Clare Curzon
  • The Dark : New Ghost Stories by Ellen Datlow
  • Uneasy Relations by Aaron J Elkins
  • Thief With No Shadow by Emily Gee
  • The Anatomy Of Deception by Lawrence Goldstone
  • A Countess Below Stairs by Eva Ibbotson
  • Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr
  • Heavens To Betsy by Beth Pattillo
  • The Sweetgum Knit Lit Society : A Novel by Beth Pattillo
  • The Secret Adventures Of Charlotte Brontë by Laura Joh Rowland
  • From The Beast To The Blonde : On Fairy Tales And Their Tellers by Marina Warner
  • Thirteen Reasons Why : A Novel by Jay Asher

 Books I Returned Without Reading

  • Ruby Slippers, Golden Tears by Ellen Datlow
  • Ilario: The Lion’s Eye : A Story Of The First History Book One by Mary Gentle
  • The Importance Of Being Kennedy : A Novel by Laurie Graham
  • Corpse De Ballet : A Nine Muses Mystery : Terpsichore by Ellen Pall
  • Southern Fried by Cathy Pickens
  • Nineteen Minutes : A Novel by Jodi Picoult
  • Furious Improvisation : How The WPA And A Cast Of Thousands Made High Art Out Of Desperate Times by Susan Quinn
  • Maledicte by Lane Robins
  • I Shall Not Want by Julia Spencer-Fleming

I’ve borrowed more books since my last trip — I’m always borrowing more books. The library is far more upside than downside.
